Wall Mount TV Shelf:
Have an old-fashioned big box television set that you purchased only a few years ago and still works very well, but are in love with the streamlined, mounted look of a flat-screen TV? Have kids that dont know how to leave the channel changer alone and want to put the TV out of reach? A wall mount TV shelf may be the answer.
Wall Mount TV Shelf Basics:
Wall mount TV shelves come in a variety of basic colors and styles to match any decor and set color. The most common are black, white and silver, though you can find glass shelves strong enough to support very small televisions up to around 30 pounds. Most shelves accommodate from a 13 to 17 inch television, though there are styles available that will hold a set of up to 27 inches (90-100 pound maximum) and heavy duty double armed models that will hold a television as large as 42 inches (300 pound maximum). Of course, the smaller and lighter the set, the more unobtrusive the design is.
Brands and Prices for a Wall Mount TV Shelf:
Many of the leading companies have been in business for decades. Some of the names you will see in your search are Peerless, Haropa, OmniMount, Orbital and AVF. Costs range from about $30 up to $250. All models need to be attached to a wall stud because of the weight they will be holding, so keep that in mind when you are placing your shelf and planning your room layout. Some models allow for stacking of additional equipment either over or under the set. Others have matching style shelves for components to minimize clutter even more and to keep a cohesive and clean overall look.
Wall Mounting TV Shelf:
Unlike only a few years ago, TVs are not something people try to hide by disguising it as, or in, a piece of furniture. Watching television is no longer a dirty secret--everyone does it. TVs have taken their place as a valid design element, much like a fireplace or window. Some family rooms are designed around the ideal placement for maximum television viewing. They are an integral part of the home entertainment experience, which has only become more popular as people scale back on going out and bring the movie theater home with DVD and surround sound. Wall mount TV shelves let you take your existing television and mount it on the wall or shelf for a streamlined look that maximizes floor space and eliminates furniture. They also let you mount in a corner, giving a versatility that flat screens cant generally offer.
TV Shelf 1, 2, 3's:
Most models allow for some degree of swivel, whether 120 degrees (perfect for a corner mounted set) to a full 360 degrees. The majority of models can be tilted, from anywhere from 5 to 10 degrees for easier viewing. Shelves for larger televisions are built at a slight angle and will tilt more--to about 30 degrees. Models that hold larger sets come with some form of mounting strap or clamps/brackets that holds the television in place and keeps it from falling over when tilted. Some of the models for smaller sets even telescope out. These products also offer some form of cord storage, so that the look remains clean and hardware stays hidden.
